Puppy Dogs, and Why You Should Be More Like Them
Something my dog Moose taught me about taking God at his word.
4 minutes: 1 minute read, plus a 3 minute song. Audio also included for those who prefer to listen.
Good Morning From Moose
My family has a terrific dog named Moose. He’s the most clumsy, lovable thing ever. What stands out most about Moose (other than his tail, which is permanently up instead of down) is he always believes what you say to him.
When you say, “good boy!” Moose ferociously wags his tail like he’s trying to churn butter, raises his eyebrows to heaven, and sprints to press himself up against you.
When you say “Moose, no,” Moose humbly drops his gaze, acts ashamed for a second, and then slowly walks to press himself up against you.
Moose hears “good boy!” and believes he’s a good boy.
Moose hears “no, Moose” and believes that you know better.
The beautiful thing is that in both cases Moose draws near.
And I pray we do the same this week.
Here’s a song I wrote called “Puppy Dog” about learning to believe God more fully at face value.

Enjoy :)

If we could deeply understand who we are in Christ, and draw near like Moose, it would transform our walk with the Lord. We are who he says we are, not who we feel we are ...
Thanks for the thought provoking post, Toby!
Years ago we had a 'Lassie' dog called Valentine. She had that name because she had some heart issues. Although not a dog lover, I found myself looking out my bedroom window watching her bask contentedly under a tree as the sun was shining in our back yard. I found myself saying a prayer asking God to give me a similar spirit that Valentine always seemed to have. The Lord used that animal to help me slow down and invite God's Holy Spirit to work in me. Thank you for sharing YOUR lessons from your dear animal!
