The Sitting Song
On Tuesday I was tired as I sat down to study the word. I exhaled and felt the Lord remind me of Martha and Mary. So instead of digging deep, grappling with hard topics and researching Greek words, I felt compelled to sit at Jesus’ feet and write a song.
In the spirit of the song, I’m going to stop writing now. Read the scripture below, and then listen to the tune!
“Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.’ But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.’” (Luke 10:38-42)
Lyrics
Chorus
Jesus, you never leave us, you never leave us, O Lord
Jesus, you want to teach us, you want to reach us with love
I want to sit where you’re sitting; make me like Mary, I’ll slow down to listen
Make me like Jesus, precious Jesus, my patient Jesus, O Lord
Verse 1
You walked into the village needing a place to stay the night
A woman came out and said, “Hey teacher, our casa is tu casa
If you wanna,” so you said, “alright”
Verse 2
And then you found a couch that you liked to sit on
Martha got to work like a little kid on her chores (so stressed!)
But little did she know that it was all a test
Chorus
Verse 3
“Hey Jesus, come on, man, my little sister Mary better lend a hand.
I can’t serve this much when I’m all alone, and someone’s got to scrub,
And sweep and clean the stove”
Verse 4
But then, uh, Jesus smiled right on back, “Martha, Martha baby, why the heart attack?
Your sister Mary chose the portion that is better, see?
So won’t you lose the apron and just sit with me?”
Chorus
Now What?
My hope for you is that you have a great day.
My questino for you is, “are you willing to put the broom today and just sit at his feet?”
Maybe even right now would be a good time to try, even for a few moments :)
Sit at his feet and listen to his teaching today! It will not be taken away from you.
Blessings,
